Laird Hamilton set to Join Puma Ocean Racing Team



Laird Hamilton is set join Puma Ocean Racing Team powered by BERG honorary and will be the 12th crew member at the even in Alicante, Spain, which is scheduled on November 4th to 5th ,on Friday and Saturday, for the kick of Volvo Ocean Race 2011-2012.

Hamilton on Friday will participate in free stand up paddle boarding demonstrations, and Saturday will join the PUMA’s crew for the first leg start, diving of the boat as they head towards Cape Town’s next port in South Africa.

Hamilton, a professional surfer, and PUMA introduced the PUMA/Liard stand up paddle board in June, a limited edition carbon fiber made stand up paddle board. The board features the same features as the Volvo 70 boat design both ergonomically and light weight, the yacht is set to participate in around the world in nine months Volvo Ocean Race. Hamilton and Juan Kouyoumdjian are the standup paddle board manufacturers, who created the unique stand up paddle board.

Juan K is the master mind after PUMA’s Mar Mostro and also the designer of the previous two victorious Volvo Ocean Race boats Ericsson 4 and ABM AMBRO. Juan K is also the key designer of boats for Artemis Racing Team for the 34th Americas event.

Juan was born in Buenos Aires in Argentina, his inspiration to study naval culture was due to his passion for sailing and attained a degree in small craft and yacht design. Today, his firm Juan Yacht Design, Valencia based, is composed of a diverse team that is specialized in designing high performance racing yachts and is also a well-known stand up paddle board manufacturer.

World Paddle Association Approves North California Surf



Exclusive stand up paddle Board with paddlers will perform a beach start styled the Le Mans way, daring the open Atlantic Ocean, the race will start on Saturday November 19th battling through the Masonboro Inlet straits navigating through the channels behind the Island Masonboro before reaching the victory line for the North California to Sound challenge.
A flat water completion, for an immediate paddler, will board form the beach on the sound side and traverse deep water channels and canals for around four miles encompassing Wrightsville’s Harbor Island. Both the races promise great spectator events, surf and sound and will takeoff from the Blockade Runner Beach Resort. Registration fee is $60 and will include welcome reception, on November 18th and entry into one of the race either elite or immediate, the awards ceremony is scheduled on November 19th Saturday. Cash prizes will be awarded to the first male and female participant who finishes the Surf to Sound Challenge. Prize of each class will be awarded in both the events.
Also featured on the event is the Waterman’s Expo on Saturday from 12 noon to 6 p.m., the water expo will display, free open public event, will showcase the local retailers specializing in stand-up paddle boards, kayaking, surf, sailing and fishing merchandise equipment and outer wear.
